CRYSTAL LAKE WATER LEVELS - 2010 UPDATE

    April 8, 2010

  More Info:

Apparently, there have been a few rumours circulating around our Lake community regarding drastic changes to our water levels. I have not heard these stories until Tuesday, March 16th.  A quick phone call to Parks Canada (Trent-Severn Waterway) confirmed my suspicions that these stories are indeed false.

The truth is that it is business as usual for our Crystal Lake Dam. Yes, we are a reservoir lake. Yes, the Trent-Severn Waterway ‘draws down’ our lake water every autumn. Yes, the ‘stop logs’ are put in any time now to capture, store, and control the spring run-off.

There will be two things new at the Crystal Lake Dam:
1. New stop logs have arrived to replace the old ones
2. A water level monitoring station is to be installed this spring (weather and scheduling permitting). It has nothing to do with the physical structure of the dam or water levels at all. The unit is lowered into the lake near the dam via a crane.

Dave Ness, my contact at the TSW for the above information, and in charge of the lake levels for our region, has agreed to come and present at our AGM on Sunday, June 6th, 2010. He is slated to give his presentation on reservoir lakes and, in particular, Crystal Lake at the beginning of our meeting (10 am). Plan to attend to get the real story on Crystal Lake water levels.

Any comments or questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,

(Interim President of the CLCA)
Bill Lee
